VLC for Android

VLC for Android is the mobile version of the legendary desktop player, with the same philosophy: it plays everything, it's completely free, and there are no ads, no tracking, and no upsells. If a file has audio or video in it, VLC will almost certainly open it.

Under the hood it's a format monster — every common codec works out of the box with no downloads, and it handles network streams, local network shares, and subtitle files with equal ease. The interface is refreshingly plain: an audio player with a real equalizer, background playback, playback speed control, a sleep timer, and widgets. It even casts to Chromecast when you want the big screen. Everything runs locally on your device, which privacy-minded folks appreciate.

Why grab the APK here? Some devices can't reach the Play Store, some regions have odd restrictions, and some people just like a verified manual install. The file below is the official VLC build (package org.videolan.vlc, published by Videolabs) — install it and never think about codecs again.
